[LTW] Character Build & Design Rules Empty [LTW] Character Build & Design Rules

[guide title="LTW's Character Build & Design Rules"]
[tit]The Rules[/tit]
[box]This topic concerns the types of builds & designs that are welcome to LTW and what determines a design unacceptable.
The Character Build Rules are classified into two categories:
[blockquote]#*Height
#*Weight
[/blockquote]
The Character Design Rules are classified into four categories:
[blockquote]#*Contrast
#*Believable Markings
#*Use of Colors
#*Realistic Scars [/blockquote]
Here you will be shown examples of an acceptable design vs. an unacceptable design for all three categories, then you will be left to determine if your character's design need tweaking![/box]

[tit]Contrast[/tit]
[box]#*The Rule: Colors should be realistic to the the degree that they are not horrifically contrasting and all colors agree with each other.

Your character's design may not have conflicting colors. Conflicting colors are when two or more very bold colors put right beside each other stand out painfully to the eye. It's basically like putting two neon colors on your wolf. Your character may not have colors that do not appear on the species of animal they belong to unless it is dulled down into a gray hue of the color. (Exceptions being very small markings, such as Strong's eye spots, or Siberia's nose bridge. No neon allowed nonetheless.)

Types of Contrast:

Good examples of brown on gray designs: Farran, River, Mara, Nafeera. You can see it is possible and can come in many forms! These designs are anything but eyesores, and you can see how the colors don't clash each other.

#*How do I balance a badly contrasted design?
It's very easy, actually! If you have a color picker on whatever art program you use, you can fix the contrast on your design. All you have to do is add some lighter or darker tones of gray into your color to dullen it. Here is an example of this balancing of colors with brown and gray:

In this way, to balance the two colors, all I did was move the color over towards the other tone. This is mostly only possible when the second color is gray, whereas with other colors, you will need to dullen the tones. More about colors in the third section of the topic, Use of Colors.

Here is another example of balancing out grays and browns, also a method for dulling color tones: [IMG src="https://i.imgur.com/G45i1cn.png"] (Hover over the button!)

[tit]Believable Markings[/tit]
[box]#*The Rule: Markings in general should make sense and not be outrageous. Unrealistic is allowed, but it should flow neatly with the rest of the character's design.

Wolves don't have stripes lining them like raccoons or tigers, nor do they have polka dots and patchy fur like dogs. However, they can have many different shades of the same color, and it isn't common for apparent stockings to show up, and as well, some unnatural markings are allowed so long as they are not outrageously unrealistic.

Types of Markings:

As you can see, realistic designs are encouraged. They are not enforced, but you'll definitely turn up some better looking wolves if you reference their actual coats! Check out this awesome subspecies guide created by PureBlood, http://www.live-the-worldwide.com/t428-a-guide-to-wolf-subspecies You can easily see what kind of markings wolves have, and the colors that are distinguished in specific subspecies.[/box]

[tit]Use of Colors[/tit]
[box]#*The Rule: Colors should be realistic to the the degree that they can be found on wolves (depending on subspecies) and/or be explained why the unnatural color is on the pelt.

Colors should not stand out like a black sheep among a flock of white sheep... Truly an unappealing design and can even be an eyesore. Black on white designs are not only ugly, but they never happen in the wild. No white wolf will have spots of black on them, and vise versa; no black wolf will have spots of white on them. (Excluding tiny chest markings). As well as black on white designs, abnormal colors should not be very bold -let alone neon. They should be dulled reasonably. PureBlood. is a perfect example of a character on LTW with acceptable unrealistic colors on their wolf. Not only is the red tone dulled, but it flows with the rest of the design, and has a legitimate reason for it's abnormality.

Types of Colors:

If you need a better reference of colors allowed when dulled, I made this sheet here that you can compare your colors to: [IMG src="https://i.imgur.com/4OiuYFA.png"] (Hover over the button!) If your color is brighter than the ones on this chart with the checks by them, then you need to consider dulling the color or running it by a moderator for approval![/box]

[tit]Realistic Scars[/tit]
[box]#*The Rule: Scars must be realistically done and realistically placed; The character must actually have been able to survive wherever the scar is at, since it takes a very deep wound to leave a mark behind.

This rule is self-explanatory. You can use your common sense on this one if a scar is plausible or not, as well as how it would actually disfigure the character. See the examples below:

Types of Scars:

[tit]Concerning Anything Else..[/tit]
[box]If you have any questions after reading this topic whether your design is acceptable or not, find a moderator to get help! First try and establish what you think the fault in the design may be, try and fix it, and then run it by a staff member. You must be approved by at least two staff members before the design is fully approved!

Remember, the possibilities in designing your character are endless! If you feel restricted after reading this topic, find some help from other members who can help you brainstorm design ideas!

Happy designing![/box]

[LTW] Character Build & Design Rules Empty Heights of the species

Post by Skady Fri Mar 03, 2017 5:39 pm

[guide title="Heights of each of the species"]
[tit]The Allowed Ranges of Heights[/tit]
[box]On the following list of spoilers are the ranges (from lower to higher) that are allowed to chose for the label "height" on your biography according to each species! [Note text="As a parallel world we do not follow 100% the rules on the earth"] So you cannot lower-pass the minimum or overpass the maximum of them! Also, there is categorized in 3 categories; 2 out of the normality (dwarfism and giantism) and the normality.

The normality is differentiated between males and females, but if a female is inside the range of a male this is not considered abnormality really (we differentiated it to have an idea of the difference between genders) so do not feel as you cannot be a big female or small male without be "special" or in other words.. "abnormal"

[ltwspoiler title="For Wolves"]If they have dwarfism or something similar (outside normality):
[blockquote margin="0px 0px 0px 10px"]- 21 to 25 inches (at the shoulder)[/blockquote]
Average height (inside normality): 26 to 34 inches (at the shoulder)
[blockquote margin="0px 0px 0px 10px"]- Males: 28 to 34 inches (at the shoulder)
- Females: 26 to 32 inches (at the shoulder)[/blockquote]
If they have giantism or something similar (outside normality) :
[blockquote margin="0px 0px 0px 10px"]- 35 to 40 inches (at the shoulder)[/blockquote]
